Temari Balls

Temari is an ancient craft from Japan that produces a kaleidoscopic patterned ball by embroidering with colorful threads. In this class, we’ll cover a Styrofoam ball by winding it with yarn, then with sewing thread. We’ll use lovely cotton and metallic threads to create the patterns. If you are unfamiliar with temari balls, take a look at www.temarikai.com. Click on Album to see many beautiful examples of temari balls.

The diagonal stripes offset by the horizontal rows make this an eye-catching and useful bookmark. Please bring something on which to put your beads such as a cotton placemat, pieces of suede, ultrasuede, handtowels, or bead dishes. You may also want to bring your glasses or magnifiers and extra light. Instructor will provide pattern, beads, thread and needles.
